On the Boards_SM-Art Tower |
|
Portland, Oregon - Intended as a powerful icon celebrating the City of Portland as a leader in creating a green city and a green economy, developer Derrick Hanna brought forward this proposal in response to a Portland Parks Department RFP. It is a visually arresting observation tower designed to USGBC LEED® Platinum certification with a viewing platform, restaurant and lounge, and gathering area 650 feet in the air. It is also an energy making machine, utilizing photovoltaic (PV) panels and vertical wind turbines to generate enough power to serve the tower and all its functions plus the entire Waterfront Park. The entwined structure resists wind and seismic forces supporting the 270 wind turbines. The tower offers parking for 400 and a ground level covered gathering area which is also the roof that supports the array of PV panels. |
